Ski Team Coach

Job Summary: Promote the sport of skiing or snowboarding while coaching children ages 4-18, as well as complying with the safety standards as outlined in the Squaw Valley/ Alpine Meadows handbook.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following; other duties may be assigned:
1. Instruct and educate students ages 4-18 in skiing technique, able to demonstrate modern teaching techniques.
2. Ensure understanding of chairlift safety
3. Determine appropriate terrain for skills being developed.
4. Use effective pacing that is appropriate for students ability level.
5. Participate in USSA/PSIA clinics to keep current with the most modern and efficient teaching methods and techniques.
6. Communicate daily with Ski Team staff to maintain awareness of operations and activities.
Skills and Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
Required:
1. Must be at least 16 years of age, if 16 applicant must provide a valid work permit
2. Strong sense of customer service
3. Excellent communication skills
4. Advanced skier or snowboarder
5. Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
6. Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Experience/ Education
Required:
1. High School Diploma or GED, if under 18 must provide valid work permit
2. One to three months ski coaching and race experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
3. One to three months experience working with children aged 4-18
Preferred
1. Recreation, education, or child development background.
2. PSIA or AASI certification
Equipment Used:
1. Skis
2. Handheld Radios

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
